Current Priorities
The following are the key priorities in our Operational Plan for 2009-2010:
To deliver the Public Awareness, Career Preference and Credentials Campaigns as the key elements of our new national marketing effort to promote the profession and to achieve strong recognition for Chartered Status.
To celebrate 2009 as the 90th anniversary of Engineers Australia, with the slogan Looking Forward: Looking Back, to underpin all our promotional activities in Divisions.
To work with Congress to create for members a new Strategic Plan for the next five-year period 2010-2015, to build on the gains we made with our first five-year plan.
To deliver our showcase annual Australian Engineering Week activities and Engineering Excellence Awards through our Divisions to promote the profession and its contribution to the community, and to recognise engineering achievements.
To continue efforts to achieve nationally consistent regulation of the engineering profession in each State and Territory, and to promote Chartered Status as a basis for professional registration.
In the uncertain global economic climate, to maintain a high public profile and political engagement on the relevance of infrastructure and engineering generally as tools for government responses, and to maintain emphasis on dealing with current and future skills shortages.
To finalise work for the launch in 2010 of new Infrastructure Report Cards for each State and Territory.
To complete the framework for recognition of Stage 3 technical competencies – to complement the Stage 3 leadership, business and management competencies developed by CELM.
To deliver a range of strategies aimed at improving the quality of the continuing professional development experience for all members of the engineering team, whether they be metropolitan, regional, remote or overseas; our e-Library will now be provided as a member benefit.
To look for further opportunities to establish mutual recognition agreements with selected overseas counterpart bodies.
As a full member of the Washington Accord (for professional engineers) and of the Sydney Accord (for technologists), to now achieve full membership of the Dublin Accord for international recognition of the credentials of our engineering associates.
To undertake a major upgrading of our public website – with greater reliance on user-generated content and business/social networking channels.
To complete a comprehensive review of our management information systems and initiate a strategy to renew these systems to enhance service delivery for members, and to improve information management and support for decision making across the organisation.
To establish a number of special committees for 2009 to respond to needs raised by Congress delegates on behalf of members.
