1. Public role and professional standing

  • Continued affiliation with the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) and the state-based Societies for Biological & Medical Engineering (SMBE).
  • The College has made the decision to extend international linkages through affiliation with the International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering
  • College brochure produced and distributed at events.
  • The College made representation to the Australian Health Minister’s Advisory Council on the need for a professional registration scheme for Biomedical Engineers.

3. Youth appeal

  • Support of the Victorian Biomedical Branch Undergraduate Thesis presentation evening continued.

4. Chartered Status

  • Discussions continue with relevant Engineers Australia staff on progressing activity in development of competencies for High Risk Areas of Practice.

5. Continuing professional development

  • EPSM-ABEC 2008 held in November in Christchurch, NZ hosting more than 400 delegates.

  • Biomedical Engineering News continues to be produced and distributed electronically with two further issues published. Editor is Bruce Morrison.
  • Webpages updated and maintained

8. A capable organisation

  • Face to face meetings held November 2008 and May 2009 to progress College activities.
  • The College Board endorsed Terms of Reference of the newly formed National Committee on Biopmedical Engineering Education and Research (NCBEER)
  • Professor Karen Reynolds welcomed to the Board as Chairman of the NCBEER.
