Key Objectives - College of Civil Engineers

1. Public role and professional standing

  • Construction Safety Taskforce has now been completed.
  • Sir John Holland award for Civil Engineer of the Year 2008 was awarded to Associate Professor Ron Cox.
  • Warren Medal awarded to Brendon Hyde for paper “Civil engineering for passage of fish and fauna.”
  • Working group has been established for the 2009 Awards.
  • Rod McGee medal was awarded to Christopher Paxino.

2. An inclusive professional team

  • Annual Civil College Board meeting had representation from the National Committees on Coastal & Ocean Engineering, Transport Engineering, Water Engineering, Construction Engineering.

3. Youth appeal

  • Young Engineers representative attended Civil College Board Meeting.

4. Chartered Status

  • Assistance with NPER audits given when requested.
  • Assistance at accreditation panels when requested.

5. Continuing professional development

  • Planning is well underway for CECAR5 in Sydney August 2010. Website is up and running. There is a local organising committee having Regular Meetings.
  • The 2008 Sir John Holland Civil Engineer of the Year Associate Professor Ron Cox undertook an Eminent Speaker Tour, visiting 9 venues across Australia.

6. International reach and influence

  • Paul Mitchell ACECC, Steve Finlay ACECC Secretary-General and Brian O’Donnell Chair of the Local Organising Committee, CECAR5.
  • Members attended ACECC meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam in April 2009.
  • The CECAR5 conference has been branded to incorporate the 2010 Structural Conference.

7. Internal (member) communications

  • This is done through the Division representative on the Board.
  • Civil College News published 2 journals.

8. A capable organisation

  • Representation on Council and Congress continued by Peter Godfrey as the National President, College Chair Barry Tonkin and past college rep Bronte Strout.
  • Two face to face Board meetings held each year.
