Key Objectives - College of Environmental Engineers

1. Public role and professional standing

  • The SSEE organises monthly seminars on a range of sustainability issues in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.
  • The SSEE and EEC are very well known in industry and in professional engineering and environmental circles. The monthly state seminars are very well attended.
  • The College has contributed well to policy development.
  • Awards are being managed well however continued effort is required to encourage nominations to be presented for consideration. Awards are reviewed and debated at every board meeting.

2. An inclusive professional team

  • The SSEE and EEC Boards have several young engineers as representatives, including representatives from YEA and WiE.
  • State Chapter Committees of SSEE compose predominantly of young engineers under the age of 30.

  • Continuous professional development initiatives by SSEE and EEC are aimed at providing members with appropriate levels of CPD to prepare them for Chartered Status.

  • The SSEE and EEC work as partners in providing continuous professional development to environmental engineers throughout Australia.
  • The SSEE and EEC conduct a biennial national conference.
  • The SSEE organises monthly seminars on a range of sustainability issues in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.

6. International reach and influence

  • The SSEE publishes a Journal four times a year titled ‘The Environmental Engineer’, which regularly attracts papers from international authors, and it also has an international readership.
  • The EEC also publishes SEEK for its members.

7. Internal (member) communications

  • The SSEE and EEC national and state teams communicate regularly through teleconferences and e-mail.

8. A capable organisation

  • The SSEE and EEC shares most of its respective Board members, and have combined Board Meetings sharing agendas.
  • The SSEE is the third largest technical society in Engineers Australia, demonstrating its capacity to attract and retain large numbers of members.
  • The SSEE and EEC have two face-to-face Board meetings a year.
