National Committee for Oil and Gas (NCO&G)

1. Public role and professional standing

  • The NCO&G aims to be the primary forum for national cooperation between EA and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). At a local level regular activity occurs with the WA ‘Oil & Gas Facilities Group’. The NCO&G supported promotion of the Norweigan INTSOK Technology Forums in Perth and Melbourne.

2. An inclusive professional team

  • The NCO&G aims to have members of both EA and SPE on the committee.

3. Youth appeal

  • The committee has no programs directly targeted to youth.

4. Chartered Status

  • Both SPE and EA have Chartered recognition programs. The committee is examining ways to achieve mutual recognition.

5. Continuing professional development

  • NCO&G acts as a central clearing-house for CPD activities involving more than one division. The committee has been advised that the WA Oil and Gas Facilities group is investigating organizing a previous SPE distinguished lecturer to do a short course in Perth. Depending on local interest this speaker could do a eminent speaker tour after the short course.

6. International reach and influence

  • EA has a cooperation agreement with SPE, a worldwide organisation with significant membership in petroleum producing regions. The NCO+G is expected to be the primary mechanism to progress cooperation with SPE.

7. Internal (member) communications

  • EA and SPE maintain separate internal communications. It is planned to jointly publish selected articles in both EA and SPE journals.

8. A capable organisation

  • It is planned that the NCO+G will be representative of engineers working for oil and gas producers as well as related government and service providers.
