1. Public role and professional standing

  • Submitted input to EA’s policy activities.
  • Worked together with the Board of the College of Mechanical Engineers and Mechanical Engineering Divisonal branches on policy positions and organising events such as eminent speaker tours and student information sessions at universities.
  • Submitted nomination for 2009 AGM Michell award.

2. An inclusive professional team

  • Appointed new industry committee member Dr David Tawfik from Melbourne now in Brisbane and new representative from SA, Dr Andrei Kotousov from the University of Adelaide.
  • Made contributions to the National Panel on Nano Engineering.
  • Started organising ACAM 6 in December 2010 in Perth with direct participation of AINDT as professional society partner.

  • Eminent speaker tours by Dr Francis Rose, 2008 AGM Michell award winner and Dr Charles Farrar of Los Alamos National Laboratory in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra.
  • Published special issue of AJME for ACAM 5.
  • Organised and participated in 2nd Asia Pacific Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring in Melbourne in Dec 2008.

6. International reach and influence

  • Made contributions to and participated in the 22nd International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in Adelaide in Dec 2008.
  • Improved contact with Australian IUTAM representative Jim Denier from the University of Adelaide.

7. Internal (member) communications

  • Published 2008-2012 strategic plan, and updated and published our 2008-2009 implementation plan.
  • Updated and maintained webpages.

8. A capable organisation

  • Organised one face-to-face meeting at Monash University in Melbourne in Sep 2008 and three teleconference meetings in Dec 2008, Mar and May 2009.
