National Committee on Automation, Control and Instrumentation (NCACI)

1. Public role and professional standing

  • The committee has had a continual focus on new membership, especially representatives from under-represented groups such as young engineers and practicing engineers across various industries and disciplines. This year the committee has taken on board a young engineer with another being considered for the following year.
  • The printing of a new brochure along with an updated website aims to promote greater awareness of the committee’s activities.

2. An inclusive professional team

  • The NCACI team is geographically spread across the nation, with all members contributing. There are strong links with the EE college, and stronger links with the ITEE college are being sought. NCACI wants to further strengthen and revitalise links with chemical/process as well as instrumentation engineering.

  • The ACI quarterly newsletter and College news provides continued communications of CPD opportunities.

6. International reach and influence

  • Australia is one of the best represented countries throughout the technical activities of IFAC, and has input into IFAC council decisions through both Ljubo Vlacic and Iven Mareels. NCACI Chair is on the IFAC Council as Vice-President and also Chair of the Technical Board of IFAC.
  • Members of the NCACI made a presentation to the IFAC Council on hosting the IFAC World Congress 2017at the IFAC Friendship evening in Seoul.

7. Internal (member) communications

  • Communications internally has been maintained through the ACI quarterly newsletter along with submission of College reports.

8. A capable organisation

  • The committee continues to drive its activities through its annual face to face meeting along with teleconferences.
