National Committee on Coastal and Ocean Engineering (NCCOE)
1. Public role and professional standing
- NCCOE assisted EA in preparing submissions, and Deputy Chair attended the House of Reps inquiry on Climate Change and the Coast on 12 March 2009.
- Submission made through EA on NSW draft sea level rise policy.
- Deputy Chair is on LOC for CECAR5 conference in 2010.
- Supporting IPENZ and New Zealand Coastal Society in organisation of Coasts and Ports in Wellington September 2009.
- Climate Change Coastal Guidelines are in the process of being updated.
2. An inclusive professional team
- Coasts and Ports 2009 conference is being orgaised for Sep 2009 in Wellington NZ.
- Organising committee is preparing for Coasts and Ports 2011 in Perth. NCCOE Rep Tania Stuhl is chair of the committee.
- Chair attended the Civil Engineer of the Year presentation in Melbourne as representative of NCCOE.
- Two new reps appointed to NCCOE to fill vacancy from Queensland.
3. Youth appeal
- Two undergraduate students offered the DN Foster award and will be attending the Coast and Ports conference in Wellington NZ in September.
- Careers Brochures posted out to High Schools and Colleges.
- Identified the need for specialised coastal engineering undergraduate and post graduate courses as a priority for the committee.

- Strong support for coastal presentations and workshops in states, particularly supported in NSW and WA.
- NCCOE meetings continue to be rotated around states.
6. International reach and influence
- Liaising with the New Zealand Coastal Society on future Coasts and Ports conference in 2009.
- Assisting with CECAR 5 in 2010.
- Several NCCOE members working /collaborating with universities overseas.
7. Internal (member) communications
- Local panel meetings advertised widely.
8. A capable organisation
- 2 face to face meetings held October 2008 and April 2009; all members have been contributing actively.
- Committee representation from all states and territories (except Tasmania).
