National Committee on Fuels and Energy (NCF&E)
1. Public role and professional standing
- NCF&E was represented in the CSIRO-led Future Fuels Forum in late 2007. Jim le Cornu, as the NCF&E representative, worked hard to provide expert input and advice to the forum. The report of the Forum was launched in July 2008.
- The Nuclear Engineering Panel continues to play an active role in addressing nuclear issues and liaises with the NCF&E. Its latest seminar “An industry update on global nuclear power and opportunities for Australia” was held in Feb 2009 at EA’s Chatswood offices, with an article based on the talk published in EA magazine in Apr 2009.
2. An inclusive professional team
- Malcolm McIntosh a long serving and valued member of the committee retired in late 2008. An invitation to join the NCF&E was extended to Martin Thomas AM FTSE who has joined the committee and attended the May 2009 meeting.
3. Youth appeal
- YEA members sit on the main committee and more representation is encouraged on a casual basis from the host state at each meeting.

- The committee does not provide any CPD activities directly excepting the seminars organised by the Nuclear Panel.
- NCF&E continues to receive material and reports on the status of the Hydrogen Economy and Fuel Cells from member Luigi Bonadio who also attended and helped organise a world hydrogen meeting in Brisbane in June 2008.
- The NCF&E linkages with two new chairs in Power Engineering and Sustainable Energy continue to be maintained.

- Members contribute to publication of the CEA Newsletter and the EA Magazine: in addition to the above, an article by P McMullan on CO2 Capture and Storage technology was prepared for publication in Engineers Australia EA News in mid 2009; and a report on the May 2009 meeting of the NCF&E Committee.
8. A capable organisation
- NCF&E has representation from a number of energy groups within Australia with oil, gas, coal, nuclear, hydrogen, renewable and biomass expertise.
- Members have additional affiliation to a wide range of other professional industry associations including FTSE,CIGRE,EESA,ENA etc.
