National Committee on Space Engineering (NCSpE)

1. Public role and professional standing

  • The Committee’s policy position remains as per our 2008 Senate Enquiry Submission (featured on the EA website).
  • The Committee fully supports and will continue to assist the Federal Government with its’ recently announced $40M ‘Australian Space Research Program’ (ASRP).

2. An inclusive professional team

  • The committee now has a membership balance of old and new, young and old, government, industry, and academic sectors covering many aspects of space engineering, and applications into space science.

3. Youth appeal

  • The Committee is a core sponsor of the recent Victorian Space Science Education Centre (VSSEC) ‘VSSEC/NASA Australian Space Prize’. VSSEC is an educational organisaton with programs aligned to EA’s objectives of national technical skilling and building interest in space-related careers. We expect to sponsor further VSSEC-organised events.
  • The Committee continues to run our annual space engineering undergraduate thesis prize.

4. Chartered Status

5. Continuing professional development

  • Discussions are currently in progress to integrate the ‘Space Engineering Symposium’ into the Australian Space Development Conference (ASDC) starting in mid 2010.

6. International reach and influence

  • The Committee is a current member of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and will likely have representation at the next International Astronautical Congress (IAC) to be held in South Korea in October.

7. Internal (member) communications

  • The Committee website update is still in progress, and has been for some time. The current state of EA’s IC is rather limited and requires modernisation.

8. A capable organisation

  • We have broadened committee membership (see above), giving us more insight into various aspects of our sector.
