National Committee on Transport (NCTR)
1. Public role and professional standing
- NCTR recognises the need to champion the cause of Transport engineers in the community. It does this through the publication of papers in its TEA magazine and through its web site. Members report back to their Panels and are encouraged to meet with Transport Ministers to raise new issues.
2. An inclusive professional team
- Tasmania is now represented on the committee so all States and Territories, and a broad range of transport disciplines, are represented.
- Members also maintain good links with state transport panels and have corresponding members to provide further input.
- Young engineers representative is invited to attend NCTR meetings.
3. Youth appeal
- Transport student prize has been established and is sponsored by Parsons Brinckerhoff with the closing date for nominations this year of 31 August 2009.

5. Continuing professional development
- Transport medal awarded to Professor Rod Troutbeck. Who will be asked to be 2009 eminent speaker.
- A special issue on Railway Engineering, was published in April 2009 and two papers have been prepared for publishing on TEA Online 2009.
6. International reach and influence
- NCTR members are members of EASTS and are encouraged to attend EASTS conference and to further international links. Meeting held with AITPM re possible joint conference late 2010.
7. Internal (member) communications
- With members in all States and Territories, regular face to face contact is not possible. Issues are discussed via emails or telephone conferences.
