National Committee on Water Engineering (NCWE)

1. Public role and professional standing

  • A Position Paper on Understanding and Managing Flood Risk and a Drought paper were both approved by the CCB.

2. An inclusive professional team

  • Newsletter disseminated to EA members and attendees at professional conferences.

3. Youth appeal

  • Program to involve final year engineering student involvement in conference has continued with three students attending conferences.

4. Chartered Status

  • The Chairman of NCWE attended the Civil College meeting in October 2008.

5. Continuing professional development

  • ARR Stage 1 funding $2 million - The 10 stage 1 projects for ARR are now progressing well with several reports now in for review. The contract for the corner stone Project (Project 1 IFD revision) is signed.
  • ARR Stage 2 funding of an additional $2 million has been secured from Department of Climate Change.
  • ARR workshops have been held in every division.

6. International reach and influence

  • WSUD Perth May 2009 – a range of national and international speakers. Conference published by CD and printed abstracts.
  • Planning on track for Water Resources Symposium, Newcastle Nov-Dec 2009.
  • IAHR Congress in 2011 in Brisbane.

7. Internal (member) communications

  • Website is being updated in particular the Position Papers. EA and NCWE websites will be amalgamated.

8. A capable organisation

  • Face to face meetings held in October 2008 and March 2009.
