National Panel on Clinical Engineering (NPCE) Engineers - Key Objectives

1. Public role and professional standing

  • Professional advice on the management of medical equipment beyond the limited scope of AS-3551 remains a priority. Discussion papers have been circulated and posted on the EA website.
  • Response to public issues such as the ACMA inquiry into spectrum allocation affecting medical telemetry.
  • Also response to Victorian plumbing regulations affecting the installation & commissioning of medical gas systems.
  • NPCE has close links with the other biomedical engineering societies of Australia (SMBEs) and overlapping conference and seminars involvement.

2. An inclusive professional team

  • Clinical Engineering has always embraced the skills of all levels of the Engineering Team, and this perspective remains unchanged.

3. Youth appeal

  • The annual Development Workshop for younger members of the profession was held successfully in August 2008 in Sydney, and remains on the annual agenda. The cumulative output of workshops over the last decade has significantly enhanced the biomedical engineering profession within Australia.

4. Chartered Status

5. Continuing professional development

  • NPCE remains integral to the planning and implementation of the annual biomedical Engineering conference – ABEC-09.
  • Two more peer-reviews of biomedical engineering services, their skills and resources have taken place in the last 12 months.

6. International reach and influence

  • NPCE members and the represented biomedical engineering profession continue to offer training and mentoring biomedical engineering support to PNG and islands of the Pacific.

7. Internal (member) communications

8. A capable organisation

  • Typically one face-to-face meeting per annum at the ABEC conference.
