  • The Division arranged an ACT Election Forum which featured main candidates from all major parties.
  • Major initiative for the 90th Anniversary was the planting of an “Engineers Australia Forest” at the Canberra International Arboretum and Gardens.
  • Achieved good range of media coverage across a broad range of events including the ACT Election Forum, Engineering Week activities, Butters Oration, launch of the Excellence Awards and the 90th Anniversary Tree Planting.
  • Positive success achieved with the newly branded Australian Engineering Week – a good foundation on which to build for future years.
  • Number of entries into the Excellence Awards are lower and sponsorship targets are not being achieved and is in large part attributable to the global financial crisis.

  • Young Engineers were actively engaged in delivering a diverse range of activities. The Gen2X lunch was an outstanding success with 150 attendees.
  • Young Engineers have held careers booths at all tertiary institutions sometime during the year with good rates of sign up of new student members.

  • The Division was actively involved in a number of school-based programs including Engquest, Engineering Games, GirlTalk and Discover Engineering Careers.
  • Facilitated sponsorship for Engquest at the national level by a local engineering organisation.
  • Delivery of Girltalk was made possible with the appointment of a part-time project officer to deliver the program – 13 schools participated (around 400 students).
  • Linkages with the three tertiary institutions have greatly improved and all were actively involved with the Discover Engineering Careers workshop.

4. Chartered Status

− Promoting the Professional Development Program towards Chartered Status for members

  • Significant PDP signing with Air Services Australia.
  • Number of Chartered interviews was again lower than in past years with only 33 processed.
  • Chartered Status workshop held with attendance of 36.

5. Continuing professional development

− Conducting learned society events

− Improving access to CPD material for members

  • Number of events, including technical, on the increase. 61 technical events held with 1674 attendees, plus 2 site visits with attendance of 49, plus 7 events during Australian Engineering Week with attendance of 193.
  • CELM continued to hold their annual leadership presentation and also held a successful half day workshop.

  • Four newsletters were produced during the year; details of all events continue to be emailed directly to all members.
  • New newsletter format makes it more likely that members will update their contact details.

  • Division office continues to provide outstanding member and customer service with a very small team.
