  • A highly successful joint lunch meeting was held with ATSE with guest speaker Jeff Cohen from the USA.
  • A new initiative for Engineering Week was our Careers Advisors Day with over 40 advisors attending the workshop and site visits; along with representatives from the University and TAFE.
  • The Excellence Awards held in May were another great success with over 50% of our entries coming from regional areas. 16 entries and just under 300 guests attended the awards ceremony and formal dinner.

− Encouraging diverse member interests

  • WiE have been very active – hosting a networking night in October with over 50 attendees and a panel discussion in March with over 40 attendees. Positive feedback on both events.
  • The Young Engineers hosted a highly successful formal dinner at Maitland Gaol. Six sponsors and over 120 guests.
  • National President and Division Executive toured Regional Groups in August.
  • The Regional Convention in Grafton was a resounding success, 5 keynote speakers, over 20 papers and approximately 80 registrants.

  • Engquest – over 45 schools registered.
  • Student Workcover Courses were held with over 45 students completing the workshop.
  • Discover Engineering saw the auditorium filled to capacity with 100 students and parents attending.
  • The Division participated in the Hunter Central Coast Innovation Festival with over 200 students from Year 4 competing in the Mini-Pult of Doom competition.

4. Chartered Status

− Promoting the Professional Development Program towards Chartered Status for members

  • A successful round table working lunch was hosted for our PDP Partners promoting the value of Chartered Status.
  • Two new companies have signed onto the PDP Program this year.
  • The Division continues to host Career Episode Report writing workshops to assist those striving for Chartered Status.

5. Continuing professional development

− Conducting learned society events

− Improving access to CPD material for members

  • Total CPD offered by Newcastle Division this year was 147.5 hours with some 1,850 attendees.
  • CELM hosted a CEO Speaker Series with speakers and their topics aligned to the National President’s vision for 2009.

− Keeping members informed

  • The website is well maintained; ‘What’s On’ continues to be circulated to members.
  • Members are well informed of upcoming events and receive reports on past activities through the monthly newsletter.

  • Good sponsorship levels maintained, strengthening current partnerships with industry.
  • A strong staff team who endeavour to provide great support to the members and branches through exceptional service.
  • Income has been supported by a growth in external room hire.
