  • Our key corporate events, the Excellence Awards, Hawken Address, 3 Breakfasts, and a Luncheon, exceeded attendance targets.
  • High level liaison with government continued with meetings with 4 Ministers, several Mayors and Directors-General throughout the year.
  • Supported the successful Women in Engineering Queensland Workshop.
  • Sir Charles Barton, Julius Krittschnitt, and Matt Darveniza were inducted into the Queensland Engineering Hall of Fame.

  • Fee paying membership increased by 5.3%, partly offset by a reduction of 4.7% in student membership. Overall a very positive nett result.
  • A 13% improvement in membership retention recorded over the previous year.

3. Youth appeal

−Promoting engineering on campus

  • 273 teams competed in the EngQuest primary school program against a target of 250 teams.
  • Through our Brisbane and Regional Groups we supported the 12 regional Science and Engineering Challenges, as well as the state and national finals. 480 secondary schools and over 3,500 students participated.
  • Supported the Science and Maths Teachers Association and delivered the keynote address at their conference dinner.
  • Held an Engineering Deans Luncheon to facilitate the sharing of information across Queensland Universities and to enhance our engagement at the tertiary level.

4. Chartered Status

− Promoting the Professional Development Program towards Chartered Status for members

  • Inducted 61 new Chartered members, exceeding the target of 30.
  • Following the appointment of an Industry Manager in Queensland, 5 new PDP agreements were signed.

5. Continuing professional development

− Conducting learned society events

− Improving access to CPD material for members

  • 7,581 attendees to 104 technical presentations. These figures exclude Local Group and Corporate events. Such an excellent result is only possible through the contribution and commitment of volunteer office bearers.
  • 80 technical presentations were made available on-line to support CPD for members in regional areas.
  • Regional conferences were held in Cairns and Gladstone. These events were very successful due to the hard work of the respective Regional Group committees.

7. Internal (member) communications

− Keeping members informed

  • Newsletter and email communication to members are continually enhanced.
  • 6 editions of the newsletter were issued, and 25 issues of the Queensland Focus email, providing 416,000 contact opportunities with Queensland members through the year.

− Good management

  • Air conditioning and lighting upgrades to Engineering House have reached tender documentation stage.
  • Successful AGM held with over 100 attendees.
