Young Engineers Australia National Committee

Financial year 2008-2009 was an extremely active one for the Young Engineers National Committee. Having delivered successfully on our yearly Operational Plan along with our first ever 5-year strategic plan, YEA is now looking ahead to the future and considering our areas of focus.

Key highlights of the year:

  • YEA delivered over 150 hours of CPD nationally.
  • Our highly successful 2008 YEA National Summit was held in Perth, and reached maximum capacity at 300 delegates.
  • Significant planning and work is underway to hold a joint national conference with CELM in May 2010.
  • Over 9000 students – from primary school through to tertiary – were contacted through events directly targeted at raising the profile of the engineering profession in the minds of young Australians.
  • YEA assisted Divisions in delivering events by providing seed funding.
  • We promoted the benefits of attaining Chartered Status by holding seminars and Career Episode Report writing workshops in each Division.
  • We continued to support and assist in developing the Young Engineers International network.
  • We continued to foster links with other organisations by holding joint events with EWB, WIE and supporting Future Net and Young Professionals Networks in various Divisions.
  • We initiated changes to the Young Professional Engineer of the Year Award to raise its prestige and the profile of candidates.

Throughout 2008-2009, YEA was supported by our national Gold Partner, HATCH. Additionally, our Silver Partners consisted of American Express, ARUP, Coffey International Limited, Connell Wagner and Steel Blue. YEA would like to thank all of these sponsors who made such a successful year possible.

2009 outgoing Chair, Cohan Drew, Brisbane passes on chair of YEA National Committee to Carla Cher, Victoria.
