Electric Energy Society of Australia (EESA)

EESA has enjoyed another successful year. At 30 June, membership was over 800. This year we held our national conference in Queensland for the first time, as well as a major NSW-based conference. This has been good for our members and is the beginning of a drive to have a major annual conference organised by each State Chapter.

Finances

The very successful 2008 annual conference, and the 2008 NSW conference and other seminars and workshops for which fees are charged, has seen the Society maintain a healthy financial position, both nationally and at the State Chapter level.

Chapters

The real strength of the EESA lies in the active committees at work in the State Chapters, who have put together impressive technical programs for the benefit of all our members. Some highlights:

  • NSW – Tallawarra Power Station, Failure Investigation Seminar, Electricity NSW
  • Victoria/Tas – World Trends in EPI, Safety in Design, History of Supply in Vic, Powering a Green Victoria, Duck Reach Hydro, Shell Refinery, Tidal Power, EESA/NHP Graduate Award
  • South Australia – Reverse Osmosis, Adelaide Saw the Light, ETSA Network Operations Centre, Hot Rocks, Planning for a Carbon Constrained Future, Wind Power -What can it Deliver.
  • Queensland – Young Engineers Networking, Airport Electrical Facilities, Insulation Coordination, Pitfalls in Transformer Use & Design, Electricity 2009, Electrical Manufacturing, Student Evening, Hot Rocks Potential, CS Energy Oxy-Firing Project
  • Western Australia – Arc Hazard

Our challenge is to further improve the delivery of professional development to our members by taking advantage of the best speakers and presenters from all our State Chapters to present in other states.

Annual Conference

Our 84th annual conference was held very successfully in Brisbane 21-22 August 2008. This was a significant development for EESA as it was the first national conference to be hosted by our Queensland Chapter.

Challenges

  • Inability to negotiate EESA participation in E21C. We remain optimistic for the future.
  • Improved member services and member growth.
  • Building the WA Group.
  • Wind Power National Road Show.
